Episode #61:
Miracle Sea!
The Land of The Mysterious Phione!

Team Ebony had sent a Manaphy egg to Team Hunters and now that it had hatched, they were tasked with taking care of the newborn. The gang headed back at their base after getting a few apples to eat, giving small bits to Manaphy, who was still a baby. They found their time with their new parents fun, and most of all, she enjoyed the presence of Turtwig.

“So now what?” Cody asked. “Should we accept her into the family?”

“I suppose so,” Buneary said. “I mean, it's not like we have anywhere for her to stay.”

“So, are you in agreement?” Turtwig asked. She nodded happily in response. “Okay, from now on, you're part of our family!”

“Mana happy!” she replied.

They all laughed as they continued off to their base. Over the next few days, they had tons of fun together, playing games, like tag, feeding her and getting rides from Turtwig. Cody seemed to be enjoying it as well. Turtwig never expected to be a father to a legendary Pokemon; the thought never in a million years crossed his mind. They continued until they looked out of the mouth in Sharpedo Bluff, looking at the full moon glare down at the sea beyond. The sight looked amazing to all of them.

“Isn't it beautiful, Manaphy?” Turtwig asked.

“Mana!” Manaphy replied.

“You know, I would never have dreamed to be a father to a legendary Pokemon. Much less a father in general.”

“Well, you seem to know about Water Types more than we do,” Cody replied.

“True. It started when I had this friend, who was also a Water Type. She used to be afraid of me until I gave her a Blue Gummi. She became my friend after that and we both decided to learn all we can about Water Pokemon. So I just knew what to do.”

“Well, I hope you guys have a good time together,” Buneary said. “Well, I have places to be. I'll see you all again soon.”

Buneary hopped off, leaving the four by themselves. They enjoyed the view some more until they finally got some sleep. Tomorrow would be a big day for them, especially for Manaphy. They were going to show her the beach tomorrow, something she'd enjoy.

-------------------------------------------------

The daylight poke in through the large opening of Sharpedo Bluff, leaving Turtwig to wake up and look around. He saw Manaphy sleeping and smiled. He decided to go over to her and tried and wake her up.

“Manaphy, wake up!” he said, happily.

She mumbled a bit. Turtwig wondered what was wrong, since she'd normally get up at the first sign of his voice.

“Manaphy, it's daylight!” he said. “Come on, we have to see the beach!”

He touched her body and noticed that it was mostly warm. He went to her head and realized something was wrong with her.

“Oh...NO!” Turtwig said in shock. “GUYS, WAKE UP, MANAPHY'S IN DANGER!”

Turtwig panicked, wondering what was wrong with her. He had never felt anyone that warm before (at least, from someone who wasn't Cyndaquil, who was always warm). They decided to get some help, someone who knew these kinds of things well. Cody went out to find Chatot, who seemed to be aware that they had a Manaphy. Minutes later, he finally arrived, watching Turtwig try to feed her a Blue Gummi. He examined her and confirmed it true.

“She has a fever,” Chatot said. “She's warm, very warm. I'd say at least 102. Which is dangerous for a Water Type like her.”

“What do we do?” Turtwig asked. “I've never experienced a fever before!”

“It'll be hard to cure a fever from a Manaphy. From what I hear, their fevers don't go away easily.”

“What'll happen if we don't treat it? N-Not that I want to refuse to do it, but...”

“If she isn't treated soon...she could die!”

Turtwig found that fact stunning. He walked backward and fell down.

“D...die?” Turtwig said in shock.

“I'm going to the guild to get an ice pack. You watch her for me. Cody, apply some water onto her.”

“Gotcha,” Cody replied.

Chatot flew off, leaving Cody to spray cold water on Manaphy to keep her hydrated. Turtwig had no idea why this happened, but the thought of Manaphy dying made him worried to the point where he couldn't do anything.

“Turtwig, what do we do?” Cyndaquil asked.

“I don't know, I DON'T KNOW!!!”

“Turtwig, calm down for a sec,” Cody said, stopping his water.

“How am I supposed to calm down when my daughter could die!”

“Pokemon won't die from a fever that easily. As long as we keep it under control, she'll be fine.”

Turtwig was somewhat calm hearing that and ended up sighing in response.

“If you say so.”

Cody continued to spray water on Manaphy to keep her cool. Chatot finally arrived with a bag of ice for Manaphy. Cody stopped, leaving him to place it on Manaphy's head.

“This should keep her cool,” Chatot said.

“I don't know how it happened!” Turtwig said. “Yesterday, she was just fine!”

“It's because she's been taken from the water for too long. Her fever's not going to go away, even with this. The only way we CAN remove it is with one item: the Phione Dew!”

“Phione Dew?” Cyndaquil asked.

“Dew that can cure anything. It's made by Phione, obviously, and they all exist in one place: Miracle Sea.”

“Miracle Sea?” Cody asked. “Oh, I've heard of that place! It's underwater, right?”

“Right. They'll be more than happy to give you Phione Dew, but you'll all need gear to go under. Especially for Cyndaquil! Cody, you should have no problem breathing underwater, so you won't need one.”

“Really?” Cody asked. He then realized something. “Oh, right. I kinda forgot I’m a Mudkip now.”

Since he was now a Water Pokémon, he was capable of breathing underwater. Cody felt proud that he had a power to breathe underwater, much to the jealousy of the other team members.

“You'll find some at the guild. Just ask for them and tell them I sent you. I wish the best for you all. I'll stay here and make sure that Manaphy doesn't end up worse. You'll have my word on it. I WILL NOT ALLOW HER TO DIE!!!”

“You gotta admire his enthusiasm,” Cody said.

They headed off to the guild to get the suits they needed. Apparently Pokemon also needed to breathe underwater. They were going to have to do all they could to save Manaphy, especially when she was sick to the point of immobility.

-----------------------------------------------------

The gang continued their path underwater, heading through Miracle Sea to reach a small cave underwater that lead to their paradise. They both continued swimming down, breathing through their masks with scuba gear on their backs and mouths. Cody was the only one who didn't need scuba gear, since he was a Water Pokemon anyway. They saw the mountain-like structure below and began to head towards it.

“It shouldn't be too long,” Cody said. “Let's get that dew and get back to Manaphy.”

The others nodded in response as they kept swimming downwards. Cody heard someone growling behind him and saw something swimming by. He looked behind him to saw a blue serpentine-like Pokemon with a tan underside and fins along his back and three spikes on his crest on his forehead. He also had a large, gaping jaw with a mustache-like barbels on the sides of his cheeks. Cody recognized it as a Gyarados.

Great, there's a Gyarados in these waters,” Cody thought. “Okay, as long as he doesn't take notice to me I should be fine.

He continued to swim down the watery path, but soon felt something odd. He got a bad gut feeling and turned around to see the Gyarados suddenly chasing after him. He screamed like mad and swam as far as his tiny feet could take him, passing the others by. The Gyarados passed them as they floated away, regaining balance afterwards.

“GET HIM AWAY FROM MEEEEEE!!!!!” Cody screamed.

He continued to swim like mad, leaving Turtwig to fired Razor Leaves at Gyarados, however, they ended up floating in the water.

“Great, that's not going to work,” Turtwig said.

Cody swam all the way into the mountain entrance below, trying desperately to get away from him. Turtwig and Cyndaquil went after him to make sure that he was alright.

Inside the paradise within, a lone island with a lake in the center and numerous ponds encased in various areas, the Phione continued to enjoy themselves, enjoying that they were mostly free from terror of the outside world. They suddenly saw bubbles coming from below, leaving the small water Pokemon to look at them. Cody suddenly flew out, spooked out at the fact that he just outran a Gyarados, the infamous Atrocious Pokemon. He snapped out of it and saw the small, Manaphy-like Pokemon with a single spiked leg and a flotation sac on their heads with a ribbon-like antenna on it with blue markings instead of yellow, being a slightly brighter blue.

“Wait a second,” Cody said to himself.

He lifted himself up and saw the Phione looking at him in confusion. He got up to see the Phione and realized that he was within their secret paradise!

“I'm here!” Cody said. “Hey, listen, sorry for intruding, but I need some help! You wouldn't happen to know of Phione Dew, would you?”

They looked at each other, wondering why he would refer to such a thing.

“You see, we happen to have a Manaphy newborn and she has a fever. I heard that Phione Dew can cure it, so...can you help?”

They don't seemed to think he was evil. As such, they didn't seem to have a problem with giving him Phione Dew. They smiled and nodded in response. They suddenly saw a violent amount of bubbles came from below, leaving the Gyarados to pop up and frighten the Phione.

“FOUND YOU!!!!” Gyarados roared.

He fired a Hydro Pump attack that shot towards the group below, but they all got out of it in time. Gyarados continued his stream, spreading his shot throughout the home. Cody watched at the pools become ruined because of him.

“STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!” Cody shouted in anger.

Gyarados stopped and glared back at Cody, leaving him to become a little nervous.

“You invade my territory and you have the nerve to say that to me?!”

Cody moved back a little bit and wondered if he should have done that.

“Insolent Pokemon!” Gyarados said, taking a deep breath before firing.

He suddenly felt pain as he felt his energy being absorbed below. Turned out that Turtwig's below using Absorb on Gyarados, firing a beam of energy that was absorbing his powers. He spun around in response and created a massive water Tornado, swinging the two of them up and throwing them to Cody's end.

“Turtwig, Cyndaquil!” Cody said.

They both got up, leaving Gyarados to drop his tornado and glared at them.

“You will pay for trying that stunt with me!” Gyarados said.

“What do we do, Cody?” Cyndaquil asked.

“We fight, that's what we do!” Turtwig replied.

They looked at Turtwig, wondering if he was serious about dealing with a ferocious Gyarados. He went to the front and looked up at the mighty Gyarados.

“Hey, whisker biscuits!” Turtwig snapped. “I came here for one reason! To save my precious daughter, Manaphy! If you so much as get in my way, then I will show no mercy!”

“She's better off without you then!”

Turtwig's eyes shot open as he growled in anger. He soon became furious to the point where he had a stare that screamed “death.” He screamed as he fired numerous left to his face, causing Gyarados to turned in defense. He charged towards him and struck him with a powerful Take Down attack. Turtwig immediately fired a stronger beam of energy that absorbed his power. Turtwig surely wasn't pulling any punches at this point.

“Turtwig,” Cody said, watching Turtwig beat the ever-loving snot out of Gyarados. “Turtwig's been with Manaphy for at least a couple of days. It's hard to imagine him being so defensive over her.”

Gyarados finally couldn't take much more and fell over, sinking into the water. Turtwig breathed in and out, leaving him to smile.

“Don't ever talk about my daughter like that,” Turtwig said. “You creep!”

Note to self,” Cody thought. “Don't ever talk bad about Manaphy in front of Turtwig. EVER!

Turtwig went back to them and felt embarrassed that he turned into some monster who simply wanted to protect the name of his daughter.

“You did well, Turtwig,” Cody said. “You have nothing to be ashamed of.”

“I think you did well!” one of the Phione said, approaching them. “You said you wanted Phione Dew? Well, we'd be happy to provide you with some! I really hope Manaphy becomes better after all of this.”

They smiled, knowing that Manaphy would be alright after all. Once they obtained the dew within a small bottle, they headed back to the guild by default of their teleporters and headed to Sharpedo Bluff. They hoped to get Manaphy fully healed before it was too late.

---------------------------------------------------

Back at Sharpedo Bluff, they gave Manaphy the dew by dropping it on her head. Her body should absorb the liquid and before she knew it, she would be healed. They took a step back and waited for the medicine to work. Manaphy squinted her eyes and opened them, looking at Turtwig, who was by her side, looking at her. She smiled and immediately went to her daddy and hugged him.

“Hey, Manaphy!” Turtwig said. “You're healed!”

“Mana, happy!” she said.

They all felt glad that Manaphy was healed. Chatot looked out into the ocean and wondered if this was the right thing to do.

“I appreciate that Manaphy's healed,” Chatot began, “but it's time we moved on.”

“Wh-What do you mean?” Turtwig asked.

“Do you know why Manaphy became sick in the first place?”

They all shook their heads wondering; they had been wondering that for a while now, since it came so suddenly.

“Manaphy is made of eighty percent water,” Chatot began. “As such, she needs water, and lots of it! She can't survive without water like most Water Pokemon can. She needs a heavy water source. That said, I'm afraid she cannot stay with you here any longer!”

They all gasped in shock, especially Turtwig, who was stunned by the idea.

“Believe me, I'm aware of the bond between Manaphy and Turtwig. However, I can assure you that the next time she falls ill...she'll definitely DIE!!!”

Turtwig hugged Manaphy in fear. She didn't want to die and Turtwig didn't want to see her die!

“She needs to head back into the sea, where she truly belongs. You cannot have a legendary as a child, especially one that thrives on water! If you so much as even care about her, you'll allow her to head into the water. I'm not trying to take her from you. After all, this is for the best.”

Turtwig didn't know what to do. He knew full well that her safety was far more important than anything else. Manaphy got on his back, while Turtwig wondered what to do.

“You said you wanted to see the beach?” Turtwig said to Manaphy.

He headed off with her, leaving the rest of them to follow. They eventually got down to the beach, where they prepared to send Manaphy off. Suddenly, a large, blue, walrus-like Pokemon with white fur on its head going down like hair, a pair of tusks in his mouth and a blue nose approached them, scaring Manaphy.

“What's that?!” Turtwig asked, surprised.

“No need to fear,” Chatot said. “This is Walrein, a friend of mine that I met on one of my journeys. I've been keeping in touch for a while and decided that he'd be the perfect choice to allow Manaphy to enjoy herself.”

“Is she the one?” Walrein said, pointing to Manaphy herself.

Manaphy went behind Turtwig, afraid of him and his fierce demeanor.

“Yes she is,” Chatot replied. “I expect you'll take good care of her?”

“I promise, she'll be taken care of, just like my children. Speaking of, I'm sure she'll enjoy my two young Spheal.”

“Manaphy, are you ready?”

Manaphy didn't know what to do. Should she go with him, or stay with Turtwig. She jumped on Turtwig's back and stood up.

“NO! STAY WITH DADDY!!!!” she shouted.

Turtwig didn't know how to respond. He simply lowered his head as he began to cry.

“Manaphy,” Turtwig said. “Do daddy a favor and go with Walrein.”

Manaphy was surprised that he was willing to do what her dad said. She went in front of him and tried to push him away.

“No, daddy, no!” Manaphy cried. “Stay with daddy, stay with...”

“MANAPHY, JUST GO ALREADY!!!!” Turtwig screamed.

Manaphy stepped back in fear of her own father. Turtwig looked at her and knew that he didn't mean to snap at her like that.

“I'm...I'm sorry, I...I never meant to snap at you like that. Please understand, I don't want you to leave. But you need water, you need to survive. Like Chatot said, it's for the best. I promise you, you'll see your daddy again. I'm, not sending you away forever.”

“Daddy...”

“You there, Walrein! You better keep your word. If I find so much as even a mark on her, you'll pay with your life! YOU UNDERSTAND ME?! I WILL NOT ALLOW MY CHILD TO GET HURT BY SOMEONE SHE DOESN'T KNOW!!! I'M HER FATHER AND I WILL DO ALL THAT I CAN TO PROTECT HER!!!!”

Walrein gulped nervously. He knew he meant business and felt it was best not to provoke him.

“You...you have my word on it,” Walrein said. “Come, Manaphy, it's time!”

Manaphy looked at Turtwig and back at Walrein. She ended up going to Walrein, hoping to see his dad again soon. She stopped to look back at daddy. She went off with Walrein as they began to drift off to sea. Turtwig went after them, but stopped just before he hit the water.

“DON'T FORGET ABOUT ME, YOU HEAR?!” Turtwig shouted. “WHEN YOU GET OLDER, COME BACK TO VISIT. I WON'T FORGET YOU, I PROMISE!!!”

“DADDY!!!” she called out. “PROMISE DADDY!!!”

Turtwig began to cry at the sight of her going under, but he knew that it was for the best. He still wondered how long it would be before they saw each other again. Weeks, years, who knew? They just hoped that she would be alright after all of this.
