Kanto: The region where the best trainers resided. The region was known for fame and glory. Many strong trainers hailed from it, such as Dash Ryuujin, Keiji Rensan and Professor Samuel Oak. However, as times changed, so did the place itself. Much of the region had changed. Cerulean Cave was closed off, and Viridian Forest wasn't as lively as it used to be. Many changes to the Gyms in Kanto had changed as well, and many of Kanto's greatest are using Pokemon native to their sister region, Johto.

Three years after the Sevii Islands incident, around the same time as the Sinnoh Battle Frontier competition, Flow Higurashi decided to set his sights on Kanto to face the Gym Leaders there. It was from Professor Elm's suggestion that he pursue the gyms there, and defeat all eight of them. As he boarded the S.S. Aqua, his dream of battling all the gyms in Kanto was coming closer. He was not going to fail this, for it would put him on the path to facing his rival, Dash Ryuujin.

Pokemon Cross Revolution: Heart and Soul!

Episode #1: Take On The Kanto League!

On the boat leading to Vermilion City in Kanto, Flow, the young boy with brown hair and a red bandana woke up from his sleep on one of the passenger rooms on the ship. He got out of bed, simply wearing a white T-Shirt and blue, Poké Ball-patterned pajama bottoms to his name. He stretched his arms as he woke up. He saw his Typhlosion on the floor, sleeping softly.

“I guess he was exhausted after last night's training,” Flow said.

The ship had a training area for battlers. They took the opportunity last night to go for it and ended up exhausted. Flow yawned once more before getting dressed. He put on brown pants and a red and white, striped shirt and put his brown coat over it. He took his PokéGear, a watch with numerous applications, such as a map and a radio, and his Poké Balls, making sure he had all of them, including Typhlosion's.

“Hey, wake up,” Flow said to his Pokemon, looking down at him.

Typhlosion woke up and stretched himself out. Flow went over to him and squatted down.

“We should be at Vermilion City within a few hours. Want to get some breakfast?”

“Ty,” he replied.

Typhlosion got up and headed off to the dining hall for some breakfast before they arrived. They wondered how strong the Kanto Gym Leaders were. One of them was Keiji Rensan, the ex-Champion of the Kanto Region, before Lance took over. He now owned the Viridian Gym, the one Giovanni used to own. He hoped that they wouldn't be too hard. They passed through another hall as they passed by a man with semi-long black hair with a white shirt with a pocket on left side of the front and blue pants. He passed by them, but immediately turned back to them.

“Excuse me,” he said.

The two turned back to him as he wondered what he wanted. He stared at them with his innocent, blue eyes over his eye glasses.

“You wouldn't happen to be Flow Higurashi, would you?!”

“Yes,” Flow replied. “How did you know my name?”

“I have heard so much about you. About your efforts against Team Rocket during the Lake of Rage incident. You're quite a brave boy.”

“Thanks. Though, I'd prefer that I don't remember that day.”

The Lake of Rage incident was where one of his friends was incapacitated for a long time. A woman with an infectious disease that augmented her powers. They said that they'd somehow cure her, but he hadn't heard a word since. He didn't want anyone referring to her or that incident, due to them having some bad memories.

“My apologies, Flow,” the man said. “Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Liam. I've been researching strong trainers such as yourself and I'd like to get to know you a bit more. Mind if I ask you a few things?”

“Don't see why not,” Flow replied. “Right, Typhlosion?”

“Typhlo!” he replied.

“Thank you. For starters, you're heading to Kanto, no? What plans do you have there?”

“I'm going to face off against the Kanto Gym Leaders. I want to beat all of them!”

“Including the skillful Keiji? Good luck. I hear that no one has yet to beat him.”

“I'll be sure to beat him!”

“Well, anyway, your first battle is at Vermilion City, correct? I hear that Keiji's mentor, Lt. Surge, is quite a strong one himself.”

“I heard. I've been researching the Kanto Gym Leaders for a while.”

“Is that right. Tell me, are you by any chance familiar with the concept of Aura Powers?”

Flow's never heard of that before. He wondered what that meant exactly by Aura Powers.

“I’ve heard so many things about it,” Liam said, “and I wonder if you're familiar with the concept of this ancient power.”

“Not me, no,” Flow replied.

“I see. Well, I should get going. I don't want to waste your time either. Thank you.”

He headed off, leaving Flow to head off with Typhlosion. Liam looked back and wondered if he really didn't know about that power.

“Such a shame,” Liam said. “I was hoping he could tell me more.”

After a while, an announcement was made over the intercom about them approaching Vermilion Port shortly. Everyone was getting ready to disembark once they all arrived.

-----------------------------------------------

Flow finally made it off the S.S. Aqua as he exited the port building to see the sights of Vermilion City. His first stop was the Pokemon Center, followed by the Gym, both of which weren't too far from the port. He decided to prepare his team up before heading to the gym to face off against Lt. Surge, known by many as 'The Lightning American.' Once he went inside, he took his team to the nurse watching over the desk, placing all of his Pokemon on the rack for Poké Balls.

“We'll be right out,” the nurse with the dark blue hair said.

“Thank you,” Flow replied.

Flow headed off elsewhere while he waited for his Pokemon to be healed. When he stepped outside, he heard a familiar howl, followed by a familiar scream. He went behind the building to see someone he knew well. He seemed to be an older boy with brown hair that went over his left eye and appeared to be wearing a blue coat, zipped up and blue pants underneath. Above him was an Arcanine, large and majestic, and on top of the boy, crushing him.

“Get off, Growl-Growl!” he said.

“Jason?” Flow asked.

Jason Oak looked at Flow and recognized him immediately. He smiled and so did Growl-Growl. He immediately went after him, pounced him and began licking him non stop.

“Hey, Growl-Growl!” Flow said, laughing.

“Decided to come to Kanto, huh?” Jason commented.

“Yeah.”

Growl-Growl got off of him, leaving Flow to get up.

“I decided to come here after some hard thinking. Professor Elm said that Dash is training on Mt. Silver.”

“Still going after him, huh?” Jason asked. “Well, I heard that Dash had a hard time with Lt. Surge when he was here for the first time. It won't be easy, especially for your first badge.”

“I beat Clair, didn't I? And she wasn't too hard for me.”

Jason could tell that he was lying, especially since that was his hardest Gym Battle ever. Flow caught on and lowered his head.

“I-I've been training,” flow replied.

“Well, good luck,” Jason said. “I'm told that only the challengers are allowed inside, so I can't watch.”

“Is that so?”

“Yeah. Not like you need support from me anyway. I have other matters to attend to.”

They both shook hands in response and gave them their goodbyes. He headed off into the Pokemon Center to check on their Pokemon. Soon he came across someone who was also at the front desk, a man with spiky blonde hair and a muscular build to his name. He was wearing a dark green tank top with his muscles bulging from underneath and brown camo pants with a black belt and black combat boots. He also had a dog tag over his neck with his name on it. He took his five Poké Balls and headed off.

“Come again, Lt. Surge,” the nurse said.

“Lt. Surge?” Flow asked himself, making sure that that was what she really called him.

He called out to Lt. Surge as he looked back at him. Flow felt nervous about asking a battle from a man like him.

“Sorry to bother you,” Flow said. “But I really want a Gym Battle from you.”

“A Gym Battle, huh?” he asked him. “I know you, you participated in the Indigo Plateau's Pokemon League, didn't you?”

“You watched that?”

“Of course. We're all supposed to watch that every year. Well, if you want a battle, I guess I can battle you. Get to the gym at 1400 hours. See you there.”

Flow knew that 1400 hours was military time for 2:00, so he decided to wait until then to get there. He picked up his Pokemon and decided to head off. He hoped that he was not as strong as Jason was making him out to be. He had been teaching his Pokemon new attacks that he hoped would work out for him. Especially against Lt. Surge.

-----------------------------------------

Flow finally arrived at the Vermilion Gym as he went inside. He couldn't see Lt. Surge inside, even though he was five minutes late. He saw the dark room with electrical surges all over the place, giving him the idea that he was definitely an Electric Type Gym Leader. He suddenly saw Lt. Surge come out with his Raichu, who was noticeably growing a small muscular build, not as much as his trainer. Definitely not as much.

“You're here,” Lt. Surge said. “Get in position and we'll get started.”

Flow wondered where his referee was, since he was not used to having people who didn't use referees to battle.

“We'll have a five on five match!” Lt. Surge said. “Whoever knocks out five of their opponent's Pokemon first wins!”

“Hold on,” Flow said. “Where's the referee?”

“I don't need one,” he replied. “It's not important to me. Now, allow me to begin! Go, Electrode!”

Lt. Surge sent out his first Pokemon, a large Poké Ball-like Pokemon with white on the top and red on the bottom, with a sinister-looking face on the bottom and beady little eyes on the top. Flow opened his Pokedex to check it out.

“ELECTRODE: THE BALL POKEMON; THE EVOLVED FORM OF VOLTORB. ELECTRODE ARE NOTORIOUSLY DANGEROUS. IF THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO, THEY TAKE PLEASURE IN FORCING THEMSELVES TO EXPLODE RANDOMLY.”

“Great, an exploder,” Flow said. He took out his Pokeball and prepared to go for it. “Go, Hitmontop!”

Flow sent out his Hitmontop as he prepared to go at it. Lt. Surge smiled as he began the battle.

“Electrode, use Spark!” Lt. Surge ordered.

“Hitmontop, use Close Combat!” Flow ordered.

Electrode fired an electrical shock that shot towards Hitmontop, but he easily dodged and spun on the spike on his head. He charged after Electrode and continuously smacked him in the face. He rolled about and tried to recover.

“Hitmontop, use Gyro Ball!”

Hitmontop spun around until he got a large, silver glow around him. He struck Electrode hard, knocking him out with ease.

“That quickly?” Lt. Surge asked.

“I'm not that easy to beat!” Flow said. “I made it to the Indigo Plateau!”

Lt. Surge called his Electrode back as he planned for something else.

“You may have won that round, but I'm not done yet! Go, Magneton!”

He sent out his Magneton to battle. Flow nodded as he prepared to get to work.

“You up for this, Hitmontop?” Flow asked.

“Hitmontop!” he replied.

“All right, use Rolling Kick!”

Hitmontop rolled around and prepared to strike Magneton for strong damage, but Lt. Surge had other plans in mind.

“Use Zap Cannon!” Lt. Surge ordered.

Magneton fired a Zap Cannon that struck Hitmontop hard as he fell to the ground. Magneton floated over to him and prepared to deal a lot of damage to him.

“Use Tri Attack!” Lt. Surge said.

He fired a powerful beam of multiple elements that struck Hitmontop hard, sending him back. Hitmontop was paralyzed and didn't know what to do. Lt. Surge smiled as he prepared to get back at him.

“Well, this is disappointing,” Lt. Surge said. “Use Discharge!”

Magneton fired a Discharge attack that hit Hitmontop hard, knocking him out immediately. The battle seemed to be moving very quickly for both of them, as each of them were down to four Pokemon each. Flow called his Hitmontop back as he prepared to send out his next Pokemon.

“Go, Typhlosion!” Flow said.

He sent out his Typhlosion, who roared proudly as he prepared to battle. Flow had a strong hope for Typhlosion to win this battle.

“Magneton, Zap Cannon!” Lt. Surge ordered.

“Use Flamethrower!” Flow ordered.

Both Pokemon fired their attacks as they collided with each other. The strength of their power was immense. Neither of them wanted to give up. Magneton lost his attack as Typhlosion's Flamethrower attack struck him hard. He fell to the ground, but floated back up and prepared to battle.

“Magneton, use Gyro Ball!”

Magneton spun around and shot towards Typhlosion, striking him hard. Flow smiled as Typhlosion grabbed a hold of him. Lt. Surge had a bad feeling about this.

“Flamethrower!” Flow ordered.

“Quick, Discharge!” Lt. Surge ordered.

Typhlosion fired a close range Flamethrower that struck Magneton for a lot of damage, just as Magneton fired a blue bolt of lightning at him. He let go as the two fell back.

“Gyro Ball!” Lt. Surge ordered.

“Flame Wheel!” Flow ordered.

Magneton spun around once more while Typhlosion covered himself in a fiery aura that caused him to fly towards Magneton, striking each other for a high amount of damage. The powerful explosion filled the room with smoke. Flow and Lt. Surge covered themselves as they wondered what happened. Who was knocked out first, and who was left standing?
