Episode #25: The Final Gym Battle! (Part 2)

After a break of five minutes, the two went back to battling once more. Flow sent his Hitmontop out once more, since he had to start with his previous choice, according to Keiji. Keiji snapped his fingers as the wheel spun once more. This time, it landed on the “Roc” space. He smiled as he prepared to send his next choice out.

“Go, Rhydon!” Keiji said.

Keiji sent his Rhydon out to battle. Flow hoped that his Hitmontop’s fighting power would be able to defeat Rhydon in battle.

“Rhydon, use Earthquake!” Keiji ordered.

Rhydon smashed the ground as he shook the earth, sending a shockwave towards Hitmontop. The attack hit, knocking him onto the ground.

“Hitmontop, stand up!” Flow said.

Hitmontop nodded in response and got up.

“Use Rolling Kick!” Flow ordered.

“Megahorn!” Keiji ordered.

Both Pokémon shot towards each other with their attacks and prepared to strike each other. Rhydon ducked low enough to strike Hitmontop directly, knocking him back and knocking him out easily.

“Tough luck,” Keiji said.

Flow gulped nervously as he called Hitmontop back. He couldn’t lose to him at this point, not when he was so close. Keiji snapped his fingers as the wheel spun again. Flow hoped for at least a strong Pokémon to take down Rhydon. He gets the light brown “Gro” space. Flow has a feeling that he needed a Ground Pokémon, with Flow hoping for the best from Gliscor, who was part Ground.

“Go, Gliscor!” Flow said.

Flow sent out his Gliscor to battle one of his type based family members. Gliscor felt pumped and ready to go!

“Rhydon, use Megahorn!” Keiji ordered.

“Fly and use Night Slash!” Flow ordered.

Rhydon charged towards Gliscor, who jumped out of the way and glided across the field. He turned to Rhydon, who was behind him and fired his Night Slash attack, striking Rhydon hard.

“Use X-Scissor!” Flow ordered.

Gliscor crossed his hands and struck Rhydon hard, knocking him back really hard.

I think we need to end this as fast as possible,” Keiji thought.

“Use Night Slash!” Flow ordered.

“Use Megahorn!” Keiji ordered.

Gliscor fired his attack, leaving Rhydon to take the hit and still push on regardless. He struck Gliscor hard, sending him flying back, sliding on the ground. Gliscor planted his pincers to cause a strong enough friction to make him stop.

“Horn Drill!” Keiji ordered.

Flow realized that it was a one hit move and needed to make sure he got out of there quickly.

“Get out of there!” Flow ordered.

Rhydon rotated his drill and charged towards Gliscor, who jumped to the right and dodged the attack with ease. Flow sighed in relief as he wished he never encountered such a technique.

“Gliscor, use X-Scissor!” Flow ordered.

Gliscor charged towards Rhydon and struck him with an X-Scissor attack. Rhydon fell to the ground, feeling weak.

“Get up!” Keiji shouted.

Rhydon got up, leaving Flow wondering what to do. He couldn't waste any more time on this at all.

Great,” Flow thought. “Now what?

Flow suddenly thought of an idea. It was a very risky attempt; both of them had one hit KO moves. Should one hit, one of them would survive while the other wouldn't.

“Gliscor, come back to my side!” Flow said.

They were all wondering what Flow was up to. Gliscor jumped over there and eventually made it across.

“Hey, Keiji!” Flow said. Keiji wondered what he wanted. “My Gliscor knows Guillotine! Pretty interesting, huh?”

“Your point being...” Keiji asked, until he realized what he was planning. “Oh, I get it. Sure, I accept your challenge.”

“Hey, Flow, what are you planning? Because I'm lost over here!”

The two Pichu both agreed with him, since they didn't know Flow's team that well.

“Isn't it obvious?” Flow asked. “Two one hit knock out moves? That's right; I'M CHALLENGING HIM TO AN INSTANT KNOCK-OUT CHALLENGE!!!!”

Keiji laughed, wondering how far he would go to defeat him.

“You're a brave trainer,” Keiji said, “I'll say that much. You really want to go that far to risk it?”

“Believe me,” Flow replied. “I'm willing to bet that I'll win! Guillotine, Gliscor!”

“We'll see about that! Horn Drill, Rhydon!”

Both of them powered their attacks, giving a slight rumble to the room. Tobias was amazed at how much strength they have.

“Whoa!” Tobias said in amazement.

Spiky and Kevin hugged each other in fright. Both Gliscor and Rhydon charged towards each other, preparing to strike each other with their powerful moves. Both hit each other where they wanted their attacks to hit, taking full brunt of the force, with Gliscor swinging around while clamping onto Rhydon.

“Gliscor!” Flow shouted.

Gliscor let go as he pincer returns to normal. He was officially knocked out. Rhydon, on the other hand, wasn't immune to his attacks. He fell on his back, unable to battle as well. They were all amazed that their attacks knocked each other out. They both called their Pokémon back, amazed that they survived the attack.

“Great work, Gliscor,” Flow said to himself.

Both were tied with two Pokémon each. Flow had Scizor and Typhlosion left, and now, he had to rely on those two to win. Keiji snapped his fingers as the wheel moved once more. It now landed on the orange “Fir” space.

“This is for myself,” Keiji said. He smiled as he made his choice. “Go, Arcanine!”

Keiji sent out an Arcanine to battle against whatever Flow had to offer. Keiji snapped his fingers once more, leaving the wheel to spin again. Whatever Flow got, he had to deal with. It landed on the gray “Ste” space, representing Steel Pokémon. The only Steel Pokémon he had was Scizor, who was extremely weak to Fire attacks. He gulped nervously as he sent him out.

“Go, Scizor!” Flow said.

Flow sent out his Scizor, who prepared to battle against the Arcanine. Flow had to avoid getting hit, at least, that was the plan Flow had in mind.

“Go, Scizor!” Flow said.

Flow sent his Scizor out to face Arcanine. He knew that this would be trouble, but how much trouble. Arcanine were ridiculously fast, so he had to think really hard about a way to defeat him.

“Arcanine, use ExtremeSpeed!” Keiji ordered.

Arcanine charged towards Scizor at blinding speeds, striking Scizor, who took the hit and managed to stand his ground.

“Metal Claw!” Flow ordered.

Scizor struck Arcanine to the side, but he managed to stand his ground regardless. Arcanine began to growl in anger, and Keiji knew how to make sure he got what he deserved.

“Flamethrower!” Keiji ordered.

“Dodge it, quick!” Flow ordered.

Arcanine fired a powerful Flamethrower, leaving Scizor to dodge immediately.

“Swing it!” Keiji ordered.

Arcanine swung his head as he struck Scizor hard. He fell on his back as he tried to get up.

“Fire Fang!” Keiji ordered.

Arcanine charged forward with his mouth on fire. Flow had to get him out of there as fast as possible.

“Agility!” Flow said.

Scizor used quicker speed to dodge the attack. He zipped left and right, but Arcanine seemed to be able to keep up with him well.

“Flamethrower!” Keiji ordered.

“Razor Wind!” Flow ordered.

Scizor got behind him and charged up a Razor Wind attack, leaving him to strike the slashing projectile just as Arcanine shot his Flamethrower. He struck him and interrupted the flames, sparing Scizor of a few more rounds.

“Bullet Punch!” Flow ordered.

Scizor shot in different directions and struck him with numerous punching moves.

“Bite!” Keiji ordered.

Arcanine kept an eye on his movements and struck at the right moment. He clamped onto Scizor's arm, and while it did little damage, they all know what was coming next.

“Fire Fang!” Keiji ordered.

Arcanine released a powerful flame that struck Scizor for massive damage. He fell to the ground, unable to battle. Flow wished that he could let Scizor last a bit longer, but it wasn't meant to be. Flow called him back, hoping Typhlosion could finish things off.

“Since you're down to your last Pokémon, we won't spin the wheel anymore,” Keiji said.

“Good,” Flow said. “Because I know exactly who to use, too!”

Flow took out his final Pokeball and hoped for the best.

“Go, Typhlosion!” Flow said.

Flow sent his Typhlosion out to battle, who felt pumped and ready. He sparked his neck flame, hoping to get a good battle going.

“Use Flame Wheel!” Flow ordered.

Typhlosion used a Flame Wheel attack as he struck Arcanine, who took the hit head on. He tried to stand up, but he faltered a little, feeling weak all of a sudden.

“Use Double-Edge!” Flow ordered.

Typhlosion struck Arcanine with a powerful strike that knocked Arcanine down, and rendered him unable to battle. Flow was ready to take on his final Pokémon and felt ready.

“It seems as if fate wants a rematch for us,” Keiji said. “So be it.”

He called Arcanine back and took out his last Pokeball.

“I hope you're ready. Go, Pidgeot!”

Keiji sent out his Pidgeot, his final Pokémon. Flow felt ready and raring to go, not hoping to lose now.

“I can't lose this match no matter what!” Flow said.

Tobias was shaking in excitement. He couldn't believe that he was so close to getting his final badge. The thought was giving him goosebumps.

“Pidgeot!” Keiji said. “Use Tailwind and Wing Attack!”

Pidgeot flew towards Typhlosion with quick speeds as his wings began to glow brightly. Flow felt prepared for his counterattack.

“Use Flamethrower to its face!” Flow ordered.

Typhlosion smiled as he fired a Flamethrower right in Pidgeot's face, throwing it off easily. Pidgeot flew back up and to the top of the Gym's ceiling.

“It's going to take more than that to beat us!” Flow said.

“Aerial Ace!” Keiji ordered.

Pidgeot flew around and vanished immediately, striking Typhlosion in the side. He rolled around and landed on all fours.

“Lava Plume!” Flow ordered.

“Mirror Move!” Keiji ordered.

Both Pokémon fired their respective attacks, with Pidgeot actually firing a Flamethrower. Since Mirror Move copied the opposing Pokémon's attack, the two faded away, canceling each other out. Flow tried to think of something to fight back.

“Mirror Move once more!” Keiji ordered.

Pidgeot fired a Lava Plume attack, striking Typhlosion hard. He fell to the ground, slowly trying to get up. Flow wondered how he was going to be able to beat him at this point.

“Typhlosion,” Flow said.

He noticed something about him. He began to glow a red aura, which Flow seemed to recognize from the Sevii Islands.

“Blaze!” Flow said, smiling.

“Aerial Ace!” Keiji ordered.

Pidgeot began to fly around as it tracked Typhlosion closely. Flow seemed to have the perfect way to defeat him.

“Block it!” Flow ordered.

Typhlosion tried to pinpoint where he would be, so he could block his attack. Pidgeot struck, leaving Typhlosion to block the attack easily by lifting his arm and taking the blow, skidding with his feet.

“No way!” Keiji said in shock.

“Flamethrower!” Flow ordered.

Typhlosion smiled as he fired a Flamethrower attack that struck Pidgeot for a lot of damage, and with Blaze in effect, as well as being the same type as Typhlosion, it did even more damage. Pidgeot fell to the ground, unable to battle. Flow couldn't believe that he won his final Gym Battle. Flow cheered as he went over to Typhlosion to give him a big hug in response.

“I knew you could do it, buddy!” Flow said, happily. “Thank you, THANK YOU!!!!”

Typhlosion felt honored that he won under Flow’s skillful control. Keiji felt impressed as well, so much that he admitted to him being and equal.

“To think,” Keiji said. “That a boy just like him defeated me years ago. He's grown up, and I have a feeling...that he will, too.”

Keiji went over to Flow and Typhlosion and smiled. He felt proud that he could have an exciting battle.

“I haven't had that exciting of a battle since the Pokémon League,” Keiji said.

“When you faced Dash Ryuujin?!” Flow said.

“Yep. I gotta admit. That boy is good. I can't believe how I acted in front of him and my father.

“Whatever you want, I don't want to hear it!” Keiji snapped. “Dash is nothing, yet he managed to cheat his way to victory! WHY CAN'T YOU SEE THAT?!?!?!”

Lt. Surge sighed in annoyance at his son's attitude.

“Tell me,” he began. “How did I get to where I was in the first place?”

“Your own strength got you here, you---”

Lt. Surge soon kicked him in the face as he fell to the ground.

“Wrong. I showed a bond with my Raichu during the war. If it wasn't for him, I would have been dead, and you would never have been born!”

Keiji was stunned at his words and tried to comprehend his lecture.

“Raichu was a faithful partner back then, and he still is today! I trust him with my life. I care about my team like I do with my troops back when I was in the army. I taught you to see that, but you misinterpreted me. I train Raichu hard, yes, but I know what's best for it. You only seem to know what's best for yourself, and only yourself."

“That day...changed my life forever. I've been blinded the whole time. It took both of them to make me see it. You also played a role, you and Silver.”

Flow wondered how Silver was doing now that he mentioned it. Keiji smiled, hoping to improve himself.

“Anyway,” Keiji said, taking out a badge resembling a thin leaf of some sort in different shades of green. “This Earth Badge is yours to keep. You know, Giovanni used to run this Gym until I took it over. I have no desire to change the badge name, so just call it whatever you desire.”

“Thank you.”

“So you have sixteen badges now, right? Johto and Kanto? You've got quite the accomplishment, let me tell you. Well, I wish you luck when Mt. Silver opens.”

Flow nodded as he just couldn't believe that he managed to get all sixteen badges from both Johto and Kanto's respective league Gyms. He had truly come far as a trainer.

From a runt to a pro,” Flow thought. “That's my evolution!

The rest of the gang came over to Flow to congratulate him on a job well done. They could all tell that Flow would have another tough challenge in the future, one even more dangerous than before. Flow's journey in Kanto was now over. Now, it was back to Johto, for something else that would get his interest.
