Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Sky Guardians!

Episode #1: Return to The Present! The New Age Is Upon Us!

It was about a few weeks since the whole ordeal with Darkrai, or who was really Kurai Megami, a mysterious human that possessed Darkrai. They got in trouble because apparently Cody was disrupting the spacetime continuum and was to be destroyed. Although nothing bad was about to happen while he was here, not to mention that whole thing was a lie fabricated by Darkrai himself, Cody didn’t want to risk the world if this really was the case. He was still five years in the past and he decided to return to the present. Hopefully nothing would change in those five years.

However, Turtwig, Cyndaquil and Buneary were saddened that he was actually leaving. Cody didn’t want to do this, but it was for the best.

“Don’t leave us, Cody!” Turtwig said.

“I’m sorry, but I want to return to my own time,” Cody said. “I’ll come back.”

“When?”

“In five years. For me, it’ll be a few days.”

“The guild might not be around that long!” Cyndaquil said.

“Well, I’ll still have you guys at Sharpedo Bluff.”

“I almost hurt Turtwig when you left,” Buneary said, crying. “Please don’t make me do it again!”

Cody heard about what Turtwig told him regarding Buneary. She was furious that they lost Cody and nearly killed Turtwig through suffocation. Cody didn’t want that to ever happen between the two ever again. He went close to them and pat each of them on the head.

“I will come back,” Cody said. “That is a promise. It won’t be like last time, I swear on it.”

They were still sad, and truth be told, even Cody was upset at the thought of never seeing them again. He turned to walk away, but he faced them again and smiled.

“I’ll be back in five years,” Cody said. “This guild is not allowed to disband until I say so. Understood?!”

“Got it!” the team said.

Cody smiled as he went off. They wondered what to do until they got back. Did they still go for missions, or just wait for him. Five years was a long time to wait for someone, especially for them. Cody had no problem, but this would be the longest five years they ever had to endure. Turtwig suddenly got an idea.

“I want to surprise Cody with something!” Turtwig said.

Cyndaquil and Buneary wondered what he was talking about. They hoped to surprise Cody with something big. Cody continued to walk to the exit of the Pokémon Village where Dialga was waiting for him. He was a humongous Pokémon compared to him, to which Cody was the size of his claw.

“Are you ready?” Dialga asked.

“Yes. Please, send me back to my own time.”

“I don’t sense anything bad in the future at the moment. Your guild and partners will be safe.”

“That’s good to hear.”

“Now then. Let us return. You are still exiled with your father, so you’ll return to the island.”

“That’s fine. As long as I can see my friends again.”

Dialga sent himself and Cody back into the present to see his friends and family in that time. Cody felt like a light hit him, but when he woke up. He saw the morning sky and the soft ocean hitting the beach of his home island in the Pokémon world. This was where the humans were exiled. It was known as Zero Isle, thought to be uninhabited. He saw the massive tower in the center that went beyond the clouds.

“I’m back,” Cody said. “I can’t wait to tell them the good news!”

Cody was told by the powers in the Pokémon World, namely Keigo the Dusclops, that humans were allowed to return to the mainland providing that they were Pokémon permanently. Many of them were unfairly exiled, partly due to the fact that Colm committed a horrible act against Jolteon. Because of that humans were exiled to Zero Isle, sometimes referred to as the forbidden isle.

Cody arrived back at his settlement and the humans there saw him at last. They had smiles on their faces and were happy to see that their hero was alive at last. One human ran off to let the elder know that Cody had come back.

“Guys!” Cody said. “I’ve got good news!”

They wondered what he meant by that. It couldn’t have been about what he did to restore time, could it?

“We can go back to the mainland!”

Their eyes lit up like a kid in a toy store. They cheered, finally returning to the lives they once lived. They had friends in that continent that they longed to reunite with. Cody looked ahead and saw the elder, along with Cody Sr.

“Dad! Elder!” Cody said.

He ran towards them and gave his father a big hug. Cody Sr. hugged back; he was glad to see his son again.

“I finally did it!” Cody said happily. “I got the Pokémon to accept humans again!”

“You did well, son.”

The people were celebrating. Cody explained that there would be a boat to take them all back and those to turn them into their Pokémon forms. Everything was perfect now, except…

“HOLD ON!” the elder shouted.

The crowd calmed down and wondered why he was so upset. Wasn’t this a cause for celebration, they all thought.

“This is good news, but we have a bigger situation now. We heard about Cody’s efforts in the past and knew he would come back. However, he was attacked by Kurai Megami, the phantom. Which means that Dark Shadow and their leader are making a counterattack. However, in a case of irony, or perhaps mere coincidence since many of us are human. The site of their attack will be…”

He pointed to the large tower in the distance. “Zero Isle Tower!”

They wondered why they would be after that. It didn’t make sense. Cody wondered what reason there could have been to attack that tower.

“I will investigate this matter myself. I want all of you to return safely. This is a matter for myself and Lord Cody.”

That meant only the elder and Cody’s father would go, but not Cody himself. Cody didn’t have the strength for Zero Isle, so they allowed the two to go for it.

“Cody,” Cody’s father said. “Return to your village and evolve into a Marshtomp. If you can, evolve all the way into a Swampert.”

That line sounded weird to him. A human evolving like a Pokémon? It was unheard of. Cody nodded. He trusted his father to get things done. When the humans set off on their own, allowing Cody Sr. and the elder to head up the tower, they wondered what kind of disaster awaited them if they failed.

The boat soon arrived to take them back. The people transformed into their Pokémon forms, some human-sized, some small as a Pikachu (for few, that was exactly what they turned into). Cody became a Mudkip and embarked on the boat. He realized that if he evolved, he would walk on two legs again, like a human. He had been a four-legged Pokémon for so long that just the running earlier felt foreign to him. He was fortunate that he was a human longer than he was a Pokémon.

He looked out at the sea and smiled.

"Hang on, guys," Cody said. "I'm coming!"

------------------------------------------------------------------

The human world was thriving and everything was normal. People went to their jobs, trainers were battling and everything was fine. Colm was still in his apartment and he was gathering his things. When he found out about Cani's return, it was already the present. It wasn't until time was altered that he decided to go back to the world and redeem himself.

He gathered his things and zipped up the small backpack. It would normally fit a kindergardener's back, but Colm could become a Raichu. He looked at his two teammates, Meganium and Swampert, and nodded.

"I can't wait to see our old friends," Meganium said.

"I bet they missed us!" Swampert replied. "Mawile, Alakazam, the Nidoran duo...I can't wait!"

"If they still don't hate our guts," Colm said.

They had forgotten about that. Except for the twins, Mawile and Alakazam wanted them out after what they did to Jolteon. It was a disastrous mess that went into a downward spiral.

It was time to go. They headed out to the plaza outside to head to Keigo's office in Rustboro City. Once he made it out, he saw someone outside that made him think for a moment. She had a white dress with white jeans and had a Gardevoir-esque hairstyle, only somewhat messy and unclean. She was looking for something.

"Is that Kirara?" Colm asked.

"Kirara?" Meganium asked back. "Oh, that Gardevoir girl?"

“I haven’t seen her in a long time,” Swampert said. “Is that really her? Her hair is all messy.”

“She’s got the same hairstyle,” Colm said. “Still, after what she did to rat us out, I don’t see why she came back all of a sudden.”

She had told everyone in the village of what Colm did to Jolteon. Granted, it was a misunderstanding, but she made it seem like he was the one who killed him. She glanced over at him and looked shocked. Colm gulped nervously, wondering if she remembered him. Kirara went over to him to reunite at last.

“Colm,” Kirara said. “I had no idea you were here.”

“Yeah,” Colm said calmly, feeling some disappointment with her. Kirara could sense animosity towards her even now.

“So...how are you?” Kirara asked.

“Don’t try to play nice,” Colm said. “I haven’t forgiven you for what you’ve done.”

“It was a misunderstanding, alright? I had no idea of what happened.”

“Sure.”

Kirara still felt anger in him. How could he forgive her after what she did to him. After all of their talk about friendship, to do this really hurt Colm.

“Want to talk?” Kirara asked.

“About what?”

“About what really happened. Privately.”

“I can’t. I have a mission to go on.”

“A mission?”

“Cani is back.”

Kirara was shocked. She had heard of Cani’s passing before when the world was destroyed, but the fact that he’s back along with the world really surprised him. She felt guilty for what she did to him.

“I really want to know the whole story between you two,” Kirara said. “Cani and Jolteon. I want to know the truth.”

Colm didn’t want to waste any more time. He sighed, since she had to know the truth.

“Come on in,” Colm said.

Colm invited her back to the lounge of the main lobby area. It was usually empty, so fortunately they had time to be alone. They entered inside and arrived at the door. He opened it and saw a relaxing area with two sets of twin seats, a pool table and a flatscreen TV on the wall. It was playing news for them, talking about events around the world. He sat down along with Kirara.

“What do you want to know?” Colm asked.

“Everything,” Kirara said. “Why did you kill Jolteon?”

“It was a misunderstanding. Jolteon attacked me, not the other way around. I only did what I did because he wanted me to do it. Then you came along and banished me when I should have told my case. Ask this first. Why did you tell everyone when all of this could have been averted. What you did made matters far worse.”

Kirara was silent and lowered her head.

“I was scared. I saw this and feared what you had supposedly became. I had to do something.”

Colm wasn’t sure if he should buy that. He sighed and rubbed his eyes with his fingers. He looked at her and began his story.

“It was five years ago. When Cani was only three years old.”
