Episode #5: Tales of Our Friends! Bidoof’s Wish! (Part 1)

Everyone was at the guild doing their own little thing. Cody, now a Marshtomp, and the others, the newly evolved Grotle and Quilava, were out exploring new areas and assisting any Pokémon in need. Everything was fine and the Pokémon were enjoying themselves. Bidoof was looking out his window in his room. He had thought about evolving, but he didn’t want to experience it. He, like Buneary, was happy in his pre-evolved state. He looked at his journal, newly fresh and decided to write in it.

“Dear Journal,” Bidoof said. “It’s been nearly five years since I’ve joined the guild. As a grown Pokémon, I think I should reminisce the good ol’ days about my time within the guild. Where should I start though?” Bidoof took the pencil to his chin and thought of what to write about. He suddenly got an idea. “Ooh, how about I talk about my adventure in finding the legendary Pokémon Jirachi. It was actually my first time joining the guild! So many memories!”

Bidoof continued to write in his journal and tried to remember to the best of his ability. Even though he was forgetful, this was one adventure he would never forget.

***

Six Years Ago.

Bidoof was a brand new recruit to the Wigglytuff Guild, who was so happy and carefree. He was introduced to all the guild members, who looked no different than now. Bidoof notably had a red bandanna around his neck, bearing his new explorer’s badge. He had a smile on his face while Chatot got everyone’s attention.

“We have a new guild member around to help us with day to day tasks. This is Bidoof.”

“Hello, yup yup,” Bidoof said. “My name is Bidoof! I’m from Softlake River where my family are proud dam builders!”

“Excellent!” Chatot said. “He’s brand new, so give him plenty of respect.”

“I’m new?” Bidoof asked.

“Umm...that is why you came here right? To be part of our guild?”

Bidoof blinked his eyes in confusion before laughing it off.

“My apologies, yup yup. I have a reputation in my family for being very forgetful.”

“You don’t say,” Chatot said. “Why do I feel like this is going to end badly?

“I’m sorry if I’m forgetful sometimes.”

“It’s nothing to worry about. I’m sure you’ll do fine. Now then. Let’s get back to work and enjoy the day!”

The guild cheered happily as they went back to their duties. Bidoof wondered what kind of mission he would go on.

“Since you’re working at the guild as an assistant, why not complete some basic tasks. Surely someone of your, umm...expertise, should be able to complete this.”

It seemed easy, for Chatot at least. What it would become though was a nightmare of failure…

“Bidoof, you broke the bowls again!”

...after failure…

“Bidoof, those don’t go there!”

...after failure…

“Darn it Bidoof, you messed up my notes again!”

...after failure. It would seem that Bidoof was incapable of doing...well, anything. For someone with a five, or rather three second attention span, what was he to do? He was the dumbest and clumsiest of their guild. Chatot was embarrassed to even assist them.

The day went on, with Chatot trying to find something for him to work on. Even if it was basic for somebody else, it would only end in complete disaster. Finally, Chatot had enough.

“What would you like me to do next?” Bidoof asked, still smiling as if nothing happened. “Try the mission board perhaps?”

“Bidoof, let’s talk for a moment,” Chatot said. “This isn’t working. This is simply not working.”

Bidoof was in tears.

“I’m a failure?” Bidoof asked, crying.

“I never said that. All I’m saying is you need some training for stuff like this. I’m willing to help, but…”

“So I’m a failure?”

“Oh, Bidoof. I’m not saying that at all.”

“YES YOU ARE!!!”

Bidoof ran off crying while Chatot sighed as he put his wing on his forehead. He had to do something with him, otherwise he was going to have no choice but to kick him out, and with a respectable Pokémon like Chatot running things, that was the last thing he wanted. He flew off to consult with Wigglytuff, but he wondered if Bidoof would ever come back.

***

Bidoof wandered town square trying to figure out what to do with himself. He had disappointed Chatot and it was doubtful that he would be invited back, or so he thought. Bidoof was a bit of a doofus, true to his name. Clumsy, stupid, inept; they were all what Bidoof, and to an extent, his kind had. Bidoof rested by the Kecleon brother’s shop and wondered what to do.

“Hey,” the purple Kecleon said. “No loitering!”

“What does that mean?” Bidoof asked.

“It means no hanging around, uninvited,” the green kecleon said. “If you want to hang around, then buy something.”

“I have no money. I’d have something, but Chatot doesn’t like me.”

The Kecleon brothers knew of Chatot and the Wigglytuff guild all too well. Everyone in town did. Chatot was caring, but he was tough.

“Did Chatot ever ask you for training?” the green Kecleon said.

“I can’t remember...See, it’s things like this that I hate about myself. I’m clumsy, stupid and clumsy! Why can’t I just be smart for once?”

The Kecleon brothers looked at each other and wondered what to do. Neither of them had any idea of how to help.

“You could always give us a hand sometimes,” the purple Kecleon said.

Bidoof loved the idea, but he was doubtful that they would accept him.

“Sorry, but I need to think for a moment,” Bidoof said.

He walked off as the two Kecleon wondered what to do about this. A Pokémon suddenly knocked into Bidoof and caused both of them to fall over. It was a tree-like Pokémon with a white upper body with green arms from the elbow on to his claws and a brown base. He got up and ran off afraid. Bidoof picked up the map and wondered how it got there. He thought it would be useful and decided to keep it.

“Hey!” someone called out.

Bidoof panicked and turned to see who said that. The two were a Gligar, the purple bat-scorpion-like Pokémon and a Bagon, a blue dragon with a gray, rock-like head that curved to his back and yellow markings on his belly and full yellow on his lower mouth.

“Where did that Snover go off to?” the Bagon asked.

“I think he ran that-a-way, towards the forks in the road,” Bidoof said.

“Thanks,” Gligar said. “Let’s get him before it’s too late!”

Bidoof wondered if he was a criminal. Bidoof looked at his note in his pocket pack and wondered if it was of importance? Was that Snover looking for it?

***

Late at night, Bidoof was attempting to get some sleep, but he had to share his room with Loudred and Corphish. The two always fought and Bidoof was unable to get any sleep whatsoever. He covered his ears with his pillow and tried to get some rest. Loudred was loud as a concert, and his snoring was driving Bidoof insane.

Once morning arrived, Bidoof was looking at the map that the Snover dropped and it led to a place called Star Cave. It was rumored that a Pokémon named Jirachi rested there, or at least that was what the marker writing on the map said. He initially went to Chatot to see about Star Cave and asked him a few questions.

“Star Cave?” Chatot asked. “Of course I’ve heard of it.”

“So what’s it about?” Bidoof asked.

“A legendary Pokémon named Jirachi is said to rest there. It’s said that anyone who wakes him up is granted a wish by him.”

“A wish?”

“You don’t know what a wish is? Well, how should I put it. A wish is a desire you want. Something you’ve longed to have. It could be literally anything, such as getting a large amount of Poke to being alone on an island to having as many friends as you want.”

“That sounds awesome! So, can I go?”

“I hope you’re aware that you’re on a probation period now, and that means you can’t accept any missions until you leave that period.”

“Not even to explore?”

“Kid, you can barely write without screwing things up. I doubt a mission, a challenging one at that, would be worthy of your...ahem...expertise.”

“I guess.”

“BIDOOF!!” Loudred yelled, scaring everyone. “YOU HAVE A VISITOR!”

“Hmm,” Chatot thought out loud. “Now who would visit you? I mean, I don’t mean to be facetious, but it’s just rare for new explorers to get visitors so early.”

“I’ll go see them!” Bidoof said, running up the ladder.

He ran up to see what surprised him. It was the runaway Snover from yesterday, the one who dropped the map. He was chased by a Bagon and a Gligar, but they don’t seem to be here.

“Oh,” Bidoof said. “It’s you! Umm...Snover?”

“Yes! I’m glad you remember.”

“I remembered something? Awesome! Oh, I’m sorry, did you need something?”

“Yes. My map.”

Bidoof looked at the map he had in his bag and showed it to him.

“This?” Bidoof asked.

“Yep!” Snover replied. “I thought I had lost it. It’s a map leading to Jirachi, have you heard of it?”

“Yeah! I’ve been meaning to visit him for a while now. I want to grant a wish myself.”

“Perfect!” he paused for a moment, but he didn’t reply.

“Snover?” Bidoof asked in worry.

“Oh, sorry. So, do you want to come?”

“Do I?!” Bidoof suddenly realized that Chatot told him no. He looked back to see Chatot reading a few documents. He looked at Snover, awaiting a response. “I guess if it’s all right. Chatot said it was fine.”

“Wonderful! Let’s go!”

The two ran off on their own, but Chatot managed to peek through the window to see Bidoof and Snover escaping to who knows where. Chatot sighed and wondered if Bidoof’s forgetfulness and stupidity got him to leave without permission.

“That idiot,” Chatot grumbled.
